Privacy policy

The short version: the calculators run in your browser and send us nothing, we collect only what you type into the contact form or a reminder sign-up, we don't sell or share it, and there are no analytics, ad pixels or session recordings on this site.

Who we are

healthinsurance.help ("we") is an independent website. Contact us through the form on /contact/. We are not affiliated with HealthCare.gov, CMS or any government agency, and we are not an insurance company or agency.

What we collect

The calculators

What you type into a calculator (state, county, ages, pregnancy, household size, income and prices) stays in your browser. To do the math the page downloads a public price file for the state you pick from this site, but your answers are not sent to us or anyone else. To carry your answers from the home page to the calculator, we keep them in your browser's session storage, which is cleared when you close the tab.

The contact form

The form at /contact/ sends us your name, your email address, the kind of message you picked (question, correction, privacy request or legal notice) and your message, plus what the form adds: a label saying it came from the contact form, the address of the page you sent it from and the consent sentence shown next to the button. We don't ask for a phone number, and we ask you not to include health information about yourself or anyone else. We don't record your IP address with the message.

Deadline reminders

If you sign up for a reminder, we keep your email address, your state, the reminder you chose (the 2027 open enrollment deadlines), the consent wording you agreed to and its version, the time, and an unsubscribe code. Nothing else: no income, household or health details. Reminder emails have not started yet. When they do, the first will ask you to confirm your address, nothing else is sent until you do, and every reminder has a one-click unsubscribe.

Browsing

Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages and files you request, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We don't add analytics, advertising pixels, session recording or tracking cookies, and we don't record which site sent you here or any campaign tags in the address.

How we use it

To reply to your message, to send the reminder you asked for, to run and secure the site, and to meet legal obligations. We don't use what you send for advertising.

Where it goes, and who sees it

Contact messages and reminder sign-ups are stored in a database run by Cloudflare for us. Contact messages are also emailed to the person who runs the site through Cloudflare's email service, so they sit in our email inbox too. That's the whole list: Cloudflare as our hosting, database and email-delivery provider, and the email provider that hosts our inbox, each acting for us.

We don't sell or share what you send. We don't pass it to insurance agents, agencies, insurers, exchanges, data brokers or advertisers. If that ever changes, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent on the form before sharing anything. We may disclose information if the law requires it, and if the site is ever sold, the buyer would take on this policy and we would post a notice here.

Consumer health data

Some state laws, such as Washington's My Health My Data Act and Nevada's similar law, protect "consumer health data". We don't ask for it and we don't collect, share or sell consumer health data. Using a calculator or reading a page doesn't send us anything about you, and the forms don't ask about health conditions, medications, pregnancy, tobacco use or treatment. If you put health details in a message anyway, we use them only to reply, never share them, and will delete them when you ask. You can ask what we hold, ask us to delete it, or withdraw consent through the contact form (choose "Privacy request").

How long we keep it

We delete contact messages 24 months after we receive them, unless you ask us to delete them sooner. Reminder sign-ups are kept until you unsubscribe, and deleted no later than 24 months after you signed up. Cloudflare keeps its own technical logs for a short time under its own policies.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, or opt out of any reminder, through the contact form (choose "Privacy request") or the unsubscribe link in any reminder. Depending on where you live, state privacy laws (including those of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon and others) may give you these rights and more, to the extent they apply to us. We honor Global Privacy Control signals, although we don't sell or share data for advertising in the first place. We won't treat you differently for using your rights. If we turn down a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer, and we'll tell you the result and how to contact your state attorney general if you disagree.

Children

This site is meant for adults. It isn't directed to anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has sent us information, write to us and we'll delete it.

Security

The site is served only over HTTPS, and the database and inbox are protected by access controls. No system is perfectly secure, which is one more reason we collect so little.

Changes

When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top. We won't start sharing what you've already sent without asking you first.
